Have you ever wanted to join a run but didn’t have the time or energy to take on a 5K, even for charity? If your definition of “run” is to the grocery store, school to pick up the kids, or meet friends at the bar, this micro run is for you.
The Rotary Satellite Club of Trinity-Odessa and the Rotary Club of Trinity are proud to announce the inaugural “Biggest Little Run Ever” in Odessa on May 21.
This fun and innovative 0.5K race was inspired by one founded by the Texas Rotary Club. The Rotary Club of Trinity reached out and asked if they could borrow their concept and received a positive response.
This affordable, non-exertive 0.5k race will allow you to support a worthy charity and enjoy a sense of accomplishment without the exhaustion. There’s even beer and, like its bigger 5k cousin, bragging rights of a completion sticker for your car.
“It’s a race for us non-athletic runners who don’t want to run a 5K, who’d much prefer walking a 0.5K,” explained Satellite Club 22-23 Chair Demetri Dellis.
At just 0.5k, the race is no longer than a couple of shopping cart laps around Costco. The Pasco 0.5k goes from Phi Delta Kappa Hall Frat House to Big Storm Brewing Company and back to the Frat House. While at Big Storm Brewing Company, participants of legal age can enjoy a complimentary beer.
“Who doesn’t enjoy a Big Storm Brew? They’re one of our best local breweries. We figured this would be the best sponsor and best partner to have for the biggest littlest funnest run ever.”
Participants can go online and register a creative name, grab their friends, coworkers, and family, and form a team of any number. Runners can also register individually or connect with a group online.
Teams are even encouraged to dress up for the competition.
“There will be awards for the best theme as we encourage our different running groups to dress in a fun theme. We may see some pirates, some Roaring 20s. The theme is up to the team’s discretion. We are just asking that they keep it tasteful, but beyond that, there is no theme for the event. This is an open way for anybody to have fun.”
The “Biggest Little Run Ever” starts at 10:00 AM and ends at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 21. Runners ages 21 or over will be able to register through May 7, 2022.
If you don’t want to run or walk but still support the nonprofit, “Biggest Little Run Ever” has a virtual option.
The “Biggest Little Run Ever” supports the work done by the Trinity Rotary Charitable Foundation.
“The Trinity Rotary Charitable Foundation is involved in nearly every facet of our community, from going to cook for kids, sponsoring the Rap River Run to writing charitable scholarships and donating to clean water grants,” explained Dellis. “I mean, Trinity Rotary is the biggest conglomerate of societal benefit that I’ve ever seen.”
If you are looking for an easy way to get out and have fun, get a little exercise while benefiting a worthy charity, the “Biggest Little Run Ever” hits all the right marks.
“There will be a plethora of food trucks and activities. One of our more exciting activities comes from Grover’s Axe, who is setting up a mobile ax-throwing right on site. We will also have giant Jenga and cornhole competitions and community vendors.”
Several levels of sponsorships are available for anyone who wants to get their business in front of the community.
- Galapagos Tortoise – $3,000.00 – One Sponsorship available
- Leatherback Turtle – $1,500.00 – Five Sponsorships available
- Loggerhead Turtle – $500.00 – Twelve Sponsorships available
- Flatback Turtle – $250.00 – Several Sponsorships are available
“This race will be a great way to meet the Rotarians. If you are interested in joining our club and seeing what we do, we’re there to answer all of your questions. If you just want to take a walk, have a beer, play some cornhole, this is the perfect event for you either way,” Dellis said. “Another inspiration for this event is you drive around and see everybody with these 5K stickers on their cars like they’re bragging about their ability to run a 5K. We’ll have a 0.5K sticker at our event, which is just as valuable because it’s fun. Someone will see it, and it’s comical, like ‘hey, he ran a 0.5K, and that’s my style too.’”
