Shocking Footage: Deadly Pileup Mystery Unraveled on Woodbury’s Route 6!

The New York State Police, in conjunction with the Town of Woodbury Police Department, are currently conducting an investigation into a tragic multi-vehicle collision that took place on September 23, 2023, along US Route 6 in Woodbury.

The vehicles involved in this incident were a 2020 Honda Accord, a 2019 Infiniti SUV, a 2017 Nissan N20, and a Honda Odyssey.

The Honda Accord, operated by 34-year-old Yeraldo Roa from Port Jervis, NY, veered into the westbound lane and impacted two eastbound vehicles on their passenger sides. Roa’s vehicle then collided head-on with a Honda Odyssey while still traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lane.

Yeraldo Roa and an eleven-year-old passenger were subsequently transported to Garnet Medical Center. Roa is currently receiving medical care for facial injuries, broken bones, and possible internal injuries, while tragically, the eleven-year-old child succumbed to the injuries and passed away at the hospital.

The Infiniti was under the control of 43-year-old Michael Escalera from Bronx, NY, and he had three passengers on board. Fortunately, they all sustained only minor injuries and were taken to Garnet Medical Center for evaluation before being released. Meanwhile, the driver of the Nissan, 60-year-old Eric Schaper from Peekskill, emerged from the incident unscathed. The Honda Odyssey, operated by Marco Espinoza Chaves, 38, from Monroe, was also involved, and its occupants were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing, and any updates will be promptly shared on the NYSP Newsroom platform. The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is actively seeking witnesses or individuals with information regarding the Honda Accord’s actions prior to the collision. They can contact the State Police barracks in Monroe to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
