Dr. Gianni Franceschi knew exactly his career path at a very early age. At age 13, he had a French class dissertation, and the topic was what he wanted to be when he grew up. The answer was a no-brainer; he’d always had excellent experiences with his family dentist and was impressed with his professionalism and ability to help people. Young Johnny Franceschi was going to be a dentist.
“At the end of my class, I remember my teacher Mrs. Patoskay came up to me and pointed her finger at me and said, ‘you know, Gianni, I really can see you as a dentist,'” he said. “That stuck with me. I want to be a dentist. She believes I can be a dentist. How awesome is that?! That made an impact. I want to help people, give them back their smiles and fix their teeth so they can chew well.”
Years later, Dr. Franceschi thanked his family dentist for being the inspiration behind his career.
Dr. Franceschi pursued his postgraduate training at the world-renowned Dawson Academy, an intensive, advanced dental training that only ten percent of all dentists across the nation ever complete the curriculum. This curriculum teaches to create functional harmony between the different parts of the masticatory (or chewing) system. It gives knowledge and skills to diagnose, plan treatment, and deliver high-quality, predictable, stable, maintainable, and long-lasting dental treatment.
There is more to oral health than just a white smile. The masticatory system plays a critical role in overall health. It must be properly balanced for optimal function. Over time, misalignments can lead to cracked or worn teeth or even tooth loss, and implants can fail through fractures or bone loss. Dr. Franceschi completed the curriculum at the Dawson Academy because he believes patients deserve the very best care.
When Dr. Franceschi opened Smiles of Trinity two decades ago, a large portion of 54 was just a two-lane highway. As his practice grew over the last twenty years, so did the community he serves.
“We are very privileged to be in this community. We have the honor to treat and become friends with such beautiful people inside and out – just very nice people. I love the location. It has everything, and it keeps getting better. Since we opened our office, this community has grown so much.”
One of the most anticipated events he looks forward to is offering FREE dental services to U.S. military veterans in need of care. This worthy event is facilitated through the PHSC dental program.
At the first appointment with Smiles of Trinity, the patient has a complete set of high-resolution, low radiation digital x-rays. As needed, a state-of-the-art low radiation 3-D scan is used for various surgeries, bone grafts, and implants.
“Since finances are important to everyone, I always try to create VALUE. When restorations last a very long time and are comfortable, that is the ultimate in value. Not only do you not need to remake the restoration a few years later, but, more importantly, we don’t need to re-drill the tooth. Therefore, we conserve tooth structure, which, in turn, gives a stronger foundation.”
Through his office, Smiles of Trinity, Dr. Franceschi provides cosmetic and surgical dentistry and general dentistry in a relaxing environment, offering full mouth rehabilitation and reconstruction. The practice can accommodate something as simple as a single tooth issue to full-mouth rehabilitation.
Services include cosmetic dentistry – porcelain veneers, tooth bonding, whitening, recontouring; general dentistry – tooth-colored, natural-looking fillings, dental cleanings, mouthguards, and sedation dentistry; and restorative dentistry – bridges, crowns, dentures, and partials; oral surgery – tooth extraction, bone grafts, implants; TMJ treatment, headache treatment, and periodontal therapy. Emergency dental service is available within 24 hours, usually the same day.
“The whole examination process is a little different. We are very thorough in everything we do. We’re mindful of the entire chewing system. We don’t just look at teeth; we look at the whole masticatory system. This boils down to what was taught at the Dawson Academy. This knowledge is critical when we do anything in dentistry in order to create comfortable long-lasting restorations.”
Dentophobia or the “fear of the dentist” is greatly diminished once a patient sees how comfortable the process is with Dr. Franceschi.
“We are always mindful of being gentle in anything we do. We put people at ease, and over time, fearful patients become not so fearful.”
Dr. Franceschi is an active member of numerous dental organizations, including the Hillsborough County Dental Research Clinic, OKU Dental Honor Society, International Congress of Oral Implantologists, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, West Coast Dental Association, and West Pasco Dental Association.
