On Sunday night, a tragic incident unfolded in the parking lot of a Lauderhill strip mall, resulting in the loss of one life and injuries to two others, according to local law enforcement.
The distressing incident came to the attention of authorities when an adult male, one of the three victims, made a frantic call to 911 shortly before 11 p.m. The call originated from the 5000 block of North University Drive.
Responding officers discovered him in a critical condition, having sustained gunshot wounds to his arm and leg. He was found lying behind one of the businesses within the plaza. The wounded individual indicated that the shooting had occurred in close proximity, specifically in the 5200 block of North University Drive.
The site mentioned by the victim is home to various restaurants and businesses situated within the plaza. Lauderhill Police Lt. Antonio Gonzalez clarified that the shooting incident had transpired in the parking lot of the plaza and was unrelated to any of the nearby eateries.
Concurrently, as officers responded to the initial victim’s call, additional law enforcement personnel arrived at the plaza located in the 5200 block of North University Drive. There, they discovered another male victim who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, he was declared deceased at the scene. The deceased individual was identified as Brandon Spells, aged 20.
The third victim, an adult female, had sustained a single gunshot wound to her leg and had sought medical attention at Florida Medical Center. The circumstances surrounding her arrival at the hospital remained unclear.
Emergency personnel transported both the surviving male victim and the injured woman to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale for treatment. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening, and they are expected to recover, as confirmed by the local police.
As of Monday afternoon, Lauderhill Police had not disclosed any information regarding potential suspects or motives, and their investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
